Privacy policy

DLI Lawyers App (“DLI”, “we”) is a court diary for lawyers. It is operated by Anurag Bindal, an individual based in Delhi, India. This policy explains what information DLI handles, why, and the choices you have. It covers the website and the Android app, which opens the same web app.

1. What DLI does

DLI keeps a chambers’ hearings in Google Calendar calendars that the chambers chooses. It shows the week’s docket, records next dates, adds new cases, fills in video-conference links, and checks public court records for case status. Your hearings stay in your own Google Calendar.

2. Information we handle

Account information

• Your name and email address, and your Google account identifier when you sign in with Google.
• If a Diary Admin gives you a password: a one-way (bcrypt) hash of it - never the password itself.
• Your chambers, role, designation and permissions, and the chambers’ settings (name, monogram, colour and diary preferences).

Google Calendar data

Only after a Diary Admin connects Google Calendar, DLI lists that account’s calendars so the chambers can choose its diaries, then reads and writes events on the chosen calendars: case titles, hearing dates and times, descriptions (case number, CNR, next and previous dates, remarks, court and video-link details) and locations. These events stay in Google Calendar; DLI does not keep a copy of them in its database. DLI keeps only the connection itself (an encrypted Google refresh token) and the chosen calendar list.

Records DLI keeps

• An audit log of changes made through DLI - date updates, sign-ins (including IP address), and settings changes - so a chambers can see who changed what. Entries can include a case title and the dates changed.
• “Wrong date” reports a member files (case title, the dates involved, an optional note).
• Court reference lists (judges, courts, registrars, video-conference links, court codes) - public court information, not personal data about users.

Court records

For a case with a CNR (the public case number assigned by the courts), DLI asks our court-records service for its public status - next date, bench and orders - from the eCourts, Delhi High Court and Supreme Court websites. Only the CNR or case number is sent; your calendar and account data are not. That service keeps the public court records it fetches.

Cookies and device storage

DLI sets one essential cookie that keeps you signed in, and briefly a security cookie during Google sign-in. Your browser also stores a few preferences (for example, the name used in greetings). DLI uses no advertising or analytics cookies.

3. How we use information

• To provide DLI’s features to you and your chambers.
• To keep DLI secure, prevent abuse, and investigate problems.
• To respond when you contact us.

We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or use it to train artificial-intelligence models.

4. Google user data

DLI requests these Google permissions:

• Sign-in (openid, email, profile): your name, email address and Google account identifier, to create and sign in to your DLI account.
• Google Calendar, requested only when a Diary Admin connects a calendar: “see the list of calendars you’re subscribed to” (calendar.calendarlist.readonly), so your chambers can choose its diaries; and “view and edit events on all your calendars” (calendar.events), used only to read, create and update events on the calendars your chambers chooses as diaries. DLI cannot share or delete your calendars.

Google user data is used only to provide and improve DLI’s user-facing diary features. It is not transferred to others except as needed to run the service (see section 5), to comply with the law, or with your consent. No person at DLI reads your calendar data unless you ask us to for support, it is needed for security, or the law requires it.

DLI’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. Who we share information with

• Your chambers. Members of your chambers see the diaries their Diary Admin allows, and the audit log where permitted.
• Service providers that run DLI for us: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Google (sign-in and Calendar), and Oracle Cloud (hosting of the court-records service). They process data on our behalf.
• Legal reasons, when the law requires it or to protect DLI and its users.

Our providers may store and process data in India or in other countries where they operate.

6. How long we keep it

We keep account information while your account exists. When you delete your account or close your chambers, DLI deletes it straight away, and it leaves our backups within 30 days. Hearings in your Google Calendar remain yours. Public court records fetched by our court-records service are kept as a shared cache.

7. Your choices

• See and correct your details under Settings → Profile & account.
• Delete your account, or close your chambers, under Settings → Profile & account - or follow the steps on the delete your account page.
• Remove Google access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. DLI also revokes it when a chambers is closed.
• Ask a question or raise a grievance by writing to dli@bindals.net.

8. Security

DLI uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypts stored Google tokens (AES-256-GCM), stores passwords only as bcrypt hashes, limits repeated sign-in attempts, and keeps an audit log. No system is perfectly secure; tell us at once if you believe your account has been misused.

9. Children

DLI is for legal professionals and is not meant for anyone under 18.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell users in the app about significant changes.
